Fast -> Conference -> Feast

I have been reflecting on the last few weeks, and some of the unique worship activities we have had. First, we had a Fast Sunday on the last week of March. When we fast we normally go without food and drink for a 24 hour period of time. This is accompanied by purposeful prayer and the associated offerings. In the proper spirit, going without food for a period of time is a meaningful form of worship.
We then had a type of feast of hearing the word of God as taught by his chosen leaders during our semiannual general conference. With the help and influence of a few good friends, and some specific prayers, I got more out of conference than I usually do.
The week after conference was Easter Sunday. This is for many a day of celebration in remembrance of the resurrection of Christ. It is quite common for families to have a feast on this day as part of our observance of this important event. Feasts have long been a type of celebratory worship, and can continue to be for us in the proper spirit.
It has been quite a time these past few weeks. Sometimes we fast, sometimes we feast. It appears that either extreme can be a form of worship that is acceptable to the Lord. I really do not fully understand why such extremes make for better worship. Perhaps that is part of what worship is sometimes - doing things beyond what we would normally do. I have a few fond memories of special fasts, and special feasts. Both ends of this spectrum can be meaningful methods of worship.

I subscribe to the mentality “when it rains, it pours”. When I’m blessed, I’m really blessed. When I feast, I really feast.
The Lord wasn’t kidding when he said he’d open heaven large enough to pour down so many blessings that we wouldn’t have room for them all.
