Pornography

Posted by Yam on January 31st, 2007

Pornography’s a pretty serious issue in the church, because it’s so destructive to the type of marriages and lives which we’d like to help people to build. So our leaders make sure to talk about it every so often.
In priesthood the other day, we had a lesson about it. The discussion centered around […]

Issues in Mormon Feminism

Posted by Naiah Earhart on January 30th, 2007

So, I got this post in email this week. It’s written by a man who wishes to remain anonymous–which is understandable given how intense discussions of such topics can be. I’ve decided to go ahead and publish it. You see, I consider myself a feminist in the world at large, in as […]

Calling the Incompetent

When considering who to extend a church calling to, which is most important, considering the needs of the calling, or the needs of the individual?

Sacred Covenants vs Secret Combinations

Posted by david on January 28th, 2007

In Ether 8, we read a story about a small group of people who employ secret combinations to achieve power. This short story is illustrative of the primary differences between the sacred covenants and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the secret oaths and combinations used by Satan. Contrasting both reminds us that […]

Fulfilling Scripture

Scripture:
Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?
Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men… (D&C 121:34-35)

Another Parable of Another Sower

Posted by Eric Nielson on January 22nd, 2007

He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
There was once a sower who went to a foreign land among strangers to sow. Some seeds fell by the wayside and birds came along and ate them. Some seeds fell among stones on hard ground and sprang up quickly, but when the sun came up they […]

Brother and Sister Franks and their five youngest children have been living in China for several months, and will continue living there for several more months. Brother and Sister Franks are long time members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have served in various callings at the ward and stake level. […]

Living by the Light of Faith

Posted by jettboy on January 13th, 2007

For a Latter-day Saint (like any believer in God) faith is what holds us together. Lose your faith and you are not really a Latter-day Saint, even if you say you are Mormon by culture. Religion is not a culture. When it becomes a culture without religious conviction than it becomes worthless.
And that, I am […]

Repetition

Posted by Yam on January 10th, 2007

One of the things I like about our church is just how present it is in our lives when we’re doing it right. I mean, right off the top of my head, here’re some regular times when we encounter the church, not even counting special events:

Sunday meetings
Conferences year-round
Family home evenings
Daily scripture study
Personal and family prayers […]

I am a Viviparous Child of God

Posted by Eric Nielson on January 8th, 2007

Viviparous is a fancy-schmancy word that I would not know if it weren’t for GeoffJ.
Not long ago I wrote a post about being a literal child of God. Jeff Lindsay wrote a post that expresses this same thought using the main two scriptures I had used. I have also recently read ‘The Philosophical Basis of […]
