Farewell Brother Wade
Posted by Ryan on October 25th, 2006
If you don’t regularly monitor the list of Blogger of Jared contributors, you may not have noticed the departure of one of our founders, Wade Poulson. It was without much fanfare or forewarning that he announced, via email, that he had reached the zenith of his blogging career and wanted to retire in style, on his own terms. A move that set him apart from other hall of famers like Brett Favre and Mike Piazza who don’t seem to know when they are past their prime and ripe for retirement.
Wade and I began the Blogger of Jared rather whimsically approximately one year ago. It has been a roller-coaster of a ride ever since trying to find legitimacy within the community and striking a balance between standing firm on our own convictions while, as Eric so eloquently outlined in his last post, being good to others.
Wade had several reasons for leaving, chief among them the piling demands of his real world responsibilities (wife and kids, third year of law school, law review, church stuff, etc..) As I understand it he will still be around to comment from time to time.
So anyway, we all liked Wade and will miss him, blah blah… On to more pressing business: Wade’s departure has left a hole in BoJ that we are anxious to fill. If you are interested in being a contributor, please send a note to my gmail address: moore.ryan and I will be in touch as quickly as possible.
Thank you to Wade for sharing your enthusiasm for the gospel with the ‘nacle and thank you to those who have visited and commented and made Blogger of Jared tolerable during this past year.

Best wishes.

With Wade gone, I wonder who will be the next to write the post that gets the most comments? Wade’s Steven Jones thread has creamed everybody else!

As I understand it he will still be around to comment from time to time.
I will be reading frequently, but I’m afraid my comments will be sparse because I get roped into the conversation and find myself unable to think about much else and it turns into an addiction. If there’s nothing else I’ve gained from my year of blogging, it is the realization that, for me, blogging is mostly an exercise in self-affirmation. Sadly, it took too much of my time–time that could have been spent in much more productive pursuits.
Thanks for the kind words!

You will be missed, Wade!

Ahhh, darn! There are certain bloggers whose comments I always want to read, even if I don’t really care about the topic of the post. Wade was (is) one.
But Wade, good for you! It’s hard to recognize an addiction and pull away–I think many of us who blog have recognized that side of ourselves.

Thanks Brian, the feeling is mutual.

Wade and I did not agree on everything, but I respect very much his point of view and I know he will be a fine attorney. I wish him the very best in all future endeavors!

I will miss Wade terribly. I got a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when I heard he was leaving. This makes me very sad. I feel like a missionary on transfer day when one of you favorite companions is going somewhere else, just when things start going well. I know how things like this usually go. We’ll keep in touch, yada, yada, yada, and often this does not happen like we intend. It’s just plain sad.

I’m sorry Eric, I feel as though I’ve put those who contribute to BoJ (particularly you since you post most regularly and we don’t have friendship outside of BoJ) in an unfair position. I feel this way because I still get to read the blog every day, but you won’t be getting much input or interaction on my part. It sounds pompous (and perhaps it is), but I think I would feel a bit jipped if a main contributor dropped out after a year of input.
But alas, I will be lurking–you can be sure that I’m reading most everything here. I just have to cut back in my involvement because of my lack of self-discipline!

Key to taking advantage of Wade’s lack of self-discipline and get him to comment on BoJ:
Write a post about Wade.

Indeed.

Actually the post was slightly about Wade but more about Brett Favre’s appalling refusal to retire despite being way past his prime and now tarnishing what was once a spectacular display of on-field leadership, cunning and refined talent. Brett, please, for the sake of the game and your dignity, put the ball down. It hurts to watch you play.

I’m just glad you’ve stopped your attack on Piazza! That actually was pretty offensive; he’s still got some good catching in his blood even if he’s not the number one hitter in the league.

He will be missed. In fact, I would miss any and all contributors to this blog no matter who left. My comments here are rather inconsistant, but I try to read all of the posts.
Glad to hear Wade will stop by every now and then. Specifically, I will miss his understanding and opinions of the legal issues. Best wishes in your REAL LIFE(tm).
