Welcome Shane!

Posted by Wade on September 12th, 2006

Semper Fidelis: It’s latin for “ever faithful”. As most of you know, it is also the motto of the United States Marine Corps. The motto is a symbol of the dedication and loyalty that the Marines have for “Corps and Country”; they are reminded by the motto to be ever faithful to their cause.

It is with honor that I introduce our newest guest contributor to the Blogger of Jared; I extend a welcome to a good friend who is the epitomy of the motto: Shane.

Shane is a Captain in the United States Marines; he flys F/A-18D Hornets (all-weather strike fighter jets) and is currently serving in Iraq. This is not his first tour in Iraq and he will be there for several months. He has graciously accepted our offer to join us as a contributor here.

I invited Shane to join us because I think those of us who have not, and do not currently, serve in the military don’t quite understand or comprehend what life is like on the front lines. Moreover, because Shane is a faithful Latter-day Saint, husband, and father, I think his insights and perspective will be a great source of knowledge and understanding. Despite your preconceived notions about the war in Iraq, and the war on terror in general, I think there is much to be learned from someone who experiences things completely different than those of us protected in what we think is a good grasp on what the war on terror is all about. That someone is Shane.

So, we at the Blogger of Jared extend our welcome and appreciation to Shane. We look forward to his posts.

(Note: because Shane is actively engaged in the war, he is obviously restricted in what he can discuss publicly; we appreciate your understanding and hope you will be able to listen with an open mind to what he does have to offer. Also, because he is busy in his duties half-way around the world, he will not always be able to respond rapidly (or perhaps even at all); but we are highly anticipating his input regardless of how in depth he will be able to go in any actual discussions).

Welcome brother, and don’t worry, I’ll get to our HT assignments this month -

Welcome Shane! It will be cool to have your perspective. Hey, while we got you here, is it really possible to be in a 4G inverted dive with
a MiG 21 at a distance of two meters? Inquiring minds need to know.

Welcome, Shane! I have a friend who worked as a State Department translator (aka CIA spook) in Iraq for a few months, so it will be interesting to compare your perspective with his. (He got to have sacrament meeting in one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces).

Excellent. Looking forward to what you have to say. And thank you for your service and sacrifice. As a wife and mother, I also greatly appreciate the sacrifice your wife and family are making as well. God bless you!
