Mormons killing Mexicans (with audio)

Posted by Ryan on May 3rd, 2006

A popular and antagonistic radio show (the John and Ken Show) that I listen to on my drive home is pretty well known for their fervent anti-illegal immigration policies.

During the marches and protests of Monday May 1st, John and Ken were invited to come onto FOX 11 news in Los Angeles to comment on the continual coverage being aired throughout the majority of the afternoon.

Most of their rants were to be expected and the FOX newscasters dutifully took up the mantle for the pro-illegal immigration group and engaged in a spirited debate. Although it got a bit heated at some points, it was nothing extremely out of the ordinary and the arguments being lobbed about were pretty typical of every other debate being held on the issue.

And then…

FOX 11 veteran reporter Tony Valdez decides to jump into the debate not by asking leading or rhetorical questions but by making a rather bold (and mostly historically inaccurate) statement about the expansion of the United States into previously Mexican territory. I listened somewhat incredulous at his brazen words on a moderate newscast but then the shocker came. Tony began accusing the Mormon Battalion of killing innocent Mexicans while acting as agents of the United States army and cited their abuses as a byproduct of their efforts to settle Southern California…

Ah p-shaw?! Afwerty-heh?!? Excuse me?

Did I miss something at the last Mormon Battalion tour? Was I, maybe in the restroom while they chronicled the details of the Mormon/Mexican slaughter? Have my history books failed me again? I searched the internet for even an accusation of such behavior by anti-Mormon groups. My search came up empty. A little help here?

10 minute audio of the exchange. Tony Valdez debuts in the last two minutes.

…I listen to on my drive home…

Hmmm, I wonder where your nationalistic tendancies come from? :)
Thanks for linking to that absolutely hilarious audio clip! It amazes me how ignorant people can be when they profess to teach us about history. Mr. Valdez needs to reread his history — or maybe just read it for a first time. If he did, I’m pretty sure he would learn about how the Mormon Battalion never fired a shot. But hey, maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about — it’s entirely possible.

Okay, I can’t resist: Doesn’t everyone know the Mormon Battalion “arrived in California too late to take part in the fighting at the Battle of San Pasqual“?

I guess you’re right Ryan, these must be lies. I bet the Church has undergone an extensive cover-up in cahoots with the U.S. Government. Uh…on second thought, I think Mr. Valdez may just have been…should I say, over_zealous in trying to spout off about his beloved Mexico?

(Note: for those who don’t know, Ryan and I both hail from San Diego, where these issues are pretty well known — the immigration battle is really heating up here)
