A Blogger of Jared Special Report

Posted by Ryan on March 16th, 2006

With the success(?) of the “Classics” series. The Blogger of Jared is pleased to present our newest series:

“A Special Report”

The defining characteristics of this series are pretty vague right now. Ideally they will most likely refine themselves with each new installment. The basic idea is that we are trying to do a bit of our own investigative reporting (and by “investigative reporting” we mean, “Googling”) of some of the contemporary issues that hold ties to the LDS community. This is in departure from our common method of posting which consists mostly of speculation, postulation and irritation. Currently we have two special reports prepared with some others brewing. Thankfully the first report is in the final editing stages and so we are pleased to announce that on Monday, March 20th, we will present “Polygamy”

Earlier this month Wade posted some observations about ABC Primetime’s story on the FLDS church and polygamists with Mormon roots. As a result of that post we have been honored to have Mary (name changed) of the Centennial Park Congregation answer some of our basic questions about the polygamist lifestyle and also consent to answering a few questions from the bloggernacle.

We’ll accept questions through the comments thread of that post (as will likely be the pattern for future special reports)

If there are any suggestions of stories or topics you would like to see covered please let us know here. We will be happy to do a little legwork for our friends in the ‘nacle!

My wife gave me an idea I thought I would pass along. She rarely reads my blog but did the other day. She expressed a concern about how much personal information I give away. She asked me not to use our kids real names on anything at my blog for safety reasons. How much of a concern should personal information be on a blog? My view is that the information is probably out there anyway and that it is no more a concern that being in the phone book or on a ward roster.

So, are there legitimate safety issues we should be aware of in blogging?

How about this for a topic. “Does science defy god or is using science a way that god gives us to further advance our technology in a way giving extra blessings to man?” Ie: Choosing the sex of your baby, Genetically Engineered foods, Stem cell research, Cloning, and the list goes on and on.

Gee, thanks for the information. And if anyone hears of broken credit they can always fix it at…
