And so it grows…
Posted by Ryan on January 3rd, 2006We’ve recently been added to www.mormon-blogs.com. You can visit the site by clicking on the “LDS BLOGS” icon on the right hand side of this page just below the “Archives” Section and the “E-blogger” icon. Hopefully we can keep growing, if anyone has ideas or abilities that they can volunteer to help us prepare to make the conversion to our own domain without too much expense, that would be great. Please post your input here and Wade or I will contact you to coordinate.

Wow, I just noticed, we were placed in the same category as Times and Seasons and By Common Consent. And at the very top of the page at that. Whew, that’s a bit of pressure.

I’m willing to purchase the domain name and I’ll start looking into hosting the site, but as I understand we will have to expect a lot of bandwidth which gets more expensive the more you use. Is this correct? Also will we need to buy some kind of blog hosting software? How much is that?

Ryan,
Kaimi Wenger (a co-blogger over at T&S) is a professor here at my school and I’m sure he knows a ton about getting a domain name, hosting the site, and the issues with bandwith (which, at the moment I know nothing about). I’m going to write him an e-mail this afternoon and ask him some basic questions to see if he’ll at least have some advice.
How did the blog get onto the lds-blogs site?

Well, I sent them an e-mail to inquire about being added when I stumbled on their site. Then this morning, I got an email informing me we were added and when I went to check it out, lo and behold, we were practically at the top of the list.

No pressure. I just consider group blogs of four or more a “Bloggernacle Choir.” Good luck and have fun with the blog.
If you want to look into a domain name and hosting, there are plenty of services out there. I would start looking at godaddy.com. They are cheap and reasonably priced for at least the domain stuff. I get hosting through kzion.com, a LDS music internet station. John has been very helpful but there are plenty of other ways to get hosting as well.

I have discussed the issues of domain name, server, and hosting with a friend from my mission and he also said that GoDaddy.com was the best place to at least get the domain name. Bloggerofjared.org is available and costs $8.95 a year.
As for getting onto a server/hosting, I’m still going to write an e-mail to Kaimi and I will also discuss it more with my friend Bryan.
